Replying to your earlier comment; I care about sinkholes. A majority of sinkholes are formed within karstic terrain - land underlain by limestone or dolomite. The dissolution of limestone or dolomite by subsurface waters causes subterranean voids to form (think of Carlsbad Caverns). In essence, the drilling and extraction of oil and natural gas should NOTbe able to cause the formation of a sinkhole. I hope that this has provided you a bit of insight of sinkholes.
