Chevy Cruze joins the summer of 2012 recall club

GasBuddy Blog -- We've told you recently about the problems Honda now has with its Civic and Toyota has with its Camry... We'd be remiss if we didn't include GM's announced recall of 475,000 Chevy Cruzes from 2011 and 2012 due to potential engine fires.

A risk of engine fires is causing GM to recall the Chevy Cruze compact car. A report from the AP says GM knows about 30 Cruzes that have caught fire. Apparently the fires can ignite when fluids, such as oil that might spill when it is being changed, drips onto a hot plastic shield below the engine.

Flames have engulfed and destroyed at least two vehicles according to NHTSA, but fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

The recalled vehicles include cars built from September...

Similar problems, apparently, with the Volt.

"Want to see what's going on with your tax dollars? Stop at ANY GM dealer-service center and see the frustration between the customers, management, and techies! On all GM models, not just the Cruz. I've taken my elderly parents several times to several different dealers to get their new GM vehicles fixed and it's the same everywhere. Poor quality!"

Are you being reasonable or go in the dealership like a bull? I have had nothing but excellent service from GM dealers. Of course, I've only had my 2009 GM car in the dealership for warranty work once in three years. No other maintenance other than oil changes. Terrific GM automobile!

Our hard-earned tax dollars at work! (50 BILLION). More JUNK from GM. The good news, the mechanics at all the GM dealers are getting plenty of work.

Always be careful when changing oil and do not spill the oil onto a hot engine or a 'hidden plastic shield.' Drain the oil when the engine is hot, wait for the engine to cool slightly, change the oil filter and then add the oil. Wipe up all spilled oil immediately! Also, fix all oil and fuel leak connections on the engine! Check the brake fluid tubing for leaks too!
A recall for someone changing their oil and the car catching fire? WHAT!
My vehicle still runs good, its paid for and I will Not be replacing it with anything else and certainly not with a Chev Cuz!
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Looks like a simple fix. You gotta to laugh at the mental midgets who attack American jobs and quality just to be attacking something and then throw politics into it.
