So why don't higher prices tempt other companies to enter the market?

Wonderful. Speedway is a leader in raising prices when any little event can be used to explain it away. Pay up suckers!

betsy: there's one more option which I think Raceway engages in: add additves that prevent water separation. Can't prove it, but that's what it appears to be.

gaz: they may not mix but there is water in their fuel - and yes, it will float to the top. I've taken gas home from there, b/c I didn't believe it and poured it in a big glass bowl (brand new container, so no water in that one). And it did have water.
The reason for why I was curious in the first place was the fact that my vehicles (both gasoline and diesel) were running rough on the Raceway fuel already many years ago.

It is possible to add water to gas. The problem is how to get water into your car's tank instead of gas. Water floats on top of the gas and the gas pump draws the gas from the bottom of the tank. Only 3 ways I can get water instead of gas, not intentionally of course, 1) someone stirring the gas station tank of the kind you are pumping 2) the gas station almost runs completely out of your kind of gas while you are pumping gas, and 3) you consistantly drive around with new empty gas tank thus leading to condensation seeping in. Worst time to pump gas is when a gas truck pulls up and starts delivering your kind of gas into the gas station's tanks.

It is impossible to add water to gas. They don't mix. Gas floats on top of water.
So if you don't like Speedway come up with another story if you feel the need to explain why.

Speedway/Marathon already raises prices too much, we need more competition not less.

thankfully mostly Raceways here, no Speedways, but neither has good fuel. They've added water to their fuel already in the 1990s. Never liked how my vehicles ran on their gas. Needless to say, I don't use them.

Speedway often has lower prizes then most other gas stations and I often buy gas from them.

Sounds like they are doing good. Next they should consider integrating alternative energy replenishment.

They will be subject to Federal law concerning gas prices and collection of taxes. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

Speedway may be buying stations but its not the cheapest gas. Near me Sams Club, Costco, Kroger and Murphy are all cheaper.
