Expedited Wind and Solar Projects

PRLOG -- While the said recipients of the projects expected to receive rapid permitting are Arizona, California, Nevada, and Wyoming, other projects to be handled in the same manner should be announced shortly. Altogether the projects, which will be of utility scale, will total around 5 GW, and should generate enough electricity to power 1.5 million homes.

According to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, the government is working working to advance smart development of renewable energy on our public lands. This he says, is a part of President Obama’s all-of-the-above strategy to expand domestic energy production and strengthen the economy. He also mentioned that the seven proposed solar and wind projects have great potential to grow our nation’s energy independence, drive job creation, and

For every unit of energy generated by renewable means in this country is a unit of energy we avoid burning from oil that's mostly imported from elsewhere.

I'm not a fan of getting my news for sites that push a particular agenda...be it for green energy or the old standards, such as coal, oil and gas. I like to get my news from news sites that have no stake in it or are not funded by companies or organizations that would benefit from it.

wind and solar will never be a baseload generation solution untill an inexpensive large scale storage system is developed because wind and solar power generation varies too much!

No project should go ahead without full environmental impact studies. For wind and solar projects, that should be fairly easy to do.

"Wind and solar are a joke and a waste of money, especially tax payer money."

We have been talking about an energy program since the seventies and nothing was ever done until this administration. Maybe attitudes like "Wind and solar are a joke and a waste of money" is why Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush never came up with an energy program.

If you read the article and were wondering what the two CSP projects are, it stands for concentrated solar power. It would take a lot of mirrors and focus them on a spot allowing a steam generator to produce electricity. there are variations to the process. This is opposed to using PV panels to generate electricity.

waste of money. One coal plant could generate more than all those combined. We should not be subsidizing energy. If it's not profitable on it's own, find another solution.

This poorly written article alludes to 'expedited permitting'. Sure hope there are no taxpayer subsidies involved and this isn't another government debacle.

Just another way to grease the wheels. Shouldn't b a surprise that the winning contracts belong to companies that donate to the correct campaign.
